Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to improper descriptor state management in packed virtqueue handling when a scatter-gather mapping fails partway through adding a packed descriptor chain. A local user can submit an I/O request that triggers a failed mapping to cause a denial of service.

The issue typically occurs in swiotlb configurations under memory pressure with larger I/O requests.
