Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause an out-of-bounds read.

The vulnerability exists due to an out-of-bounds read in CIFSSMBRead() when processing a short READ_RSP from an SMB1 server. A remote attacker can return a short READ_RSP to cause an out-of-bounds read.

Exploitation requires an explicit SMB1 mount using vers=1.0, because SMB1 is not negotiated by default.
