Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to infinite loop in PPP printer when handling the DLT_PPP_SERIAL .pcap savefile. A remote attacker can trick  the victim into opening a specially crafted file and cause denial of service conditions.

How to mitigate CVE-2024-2397

Note, the vulnerability does not affect any tcpdump release, but it affected the git master branch from 2023-06-05 to 2024-03-21.
