Poland arrests two men in connection to railway hacking

The Polish authorities have detained two men allegedly involved in a recent series of railway hacks that caused an emergency stoppage of trains in northwestern Poland causing delays.

The two men, who are both Polish citizens, were apprehended in the eastern city of Bialystok on Saturday at a private apartment. During searches, the radio transceivers were found.

According to Stanisław Żaryn, deputy coordinator of special services, the authorities are working to identify how many unauthorized “radio-stop” signals the two detained men could have transmitted.

“At this stage we have no grounds to pass information suggesting that these problems have been inspired by a foreign state. The geopolitical situation, however, urges us to examine in detail who might have been behind such incidents,” Żaryn told tvn24.pl.

He also added that after the suspects were detained, another similar incident occurred in southwest Poland.

According to local media reports, one of the suspects is a serving police officer. Police in Bialystok said Monday their agency had opened a dismissal procedure against him.
