- Critical
Description
This security bulletin contains information about 6 secuirty vulnerabilities.
1) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2012-4885)
The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to perform service disruption.
The wikitext parser in MediaWiki 1.17.x before 1.17.3 and 1.18.x before 1.18.2 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop) via certain input, as demonstrated by the padleft function.
2) Cross-site request forgery (CVE-ID: CVE-2012-1579)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform cross-site request forgery attacks.
The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of the HTTP request origin. A remote attacker can trick the victim to visit a specially crafted web page and perform arbitrary actions on behalf of the victim on the vulnerable website.
3) Cross-site request forgery (CVE-ID: CVE-2012-1580)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform cross-site request forgery attacks.
The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of the HTTP request origin. A remote attacker can trick the victim to visit a specially crafted web page and perform arbitrary actions on behalf of the victim on the vulnerable website.
4) Permissions, Privileges, and Access Controls (CVE-ID: CVE-2012-1581)
The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to manipulate data.
MediaWiki 1.17.x before 1.17.3 and 1.18.x before 1.18.2 uses weak random numbers for password reset tokens, which makes it easier for remote attackers to change the passwords of arbitrary users.
5) Cross-site scripting (CVE-ID: CVE-2012-1582)
Vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform XSS attacks.
The vulnerability is caused by an input validation error in the wikitext parser in MediaWiki 1.17.x before 1.17.3 and 1.18.x before 1.18.2. A remote attacker can trick the victim to follow a specially crafted link and execute arbitrary HTML and script code in victim's browser in security context of vulnerable website.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker to steal potentially sensitive information, change appearance of the web page, perform phishing and drive-by-download attacks.
6) Cross-site request forgery (CVE-ID: CVE-2012-1578)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform cross-site request forgery attacks.
The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of the HTTP request origin. A remote attacker can trick the victim to visit a specially crafted web page and perform arbitrary actions on behalf of the victim on the vulnerable website.
