Security Bulletin

This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.

1) Use-after-free

EUVDB-ID: #VU32111

Risk: Medium

CVSSv4.0: 6.6 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green]

CVE-ID: CVE-2017-5843

CWE-ID: CWE-416 - Use After Free

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

Multiple use-after-free vulnerabilities in the (1) gst_mini_object_unref, (2) gst_tag_list_unref, and (3) gst_mxf_demux_update_essence_tracks functions in GStreamer before 1.10.3 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via vectors involving stream tags, as demonstrated by 02785736.mxf.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's repository.

Vulnerable software versions

Fedora: 26

python-gstreamer1: before 1.12.0-1.fc26

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.

2) Out-of-bounds read

EUVDB-ID: #VU33551

Risk: Medium

CVSSv4.0: 6.6 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green]

CVE-ID: CVE-2017-5848

CWE-ID: CWE-125 - Out-of-bounds read

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The gst_ps_demux_parse_psm function in gst/mpegdemux/gstmpegdemux.c in gst-plugins-bad in GStreamer allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (invalid memory read and crash) via vectors involving PSM parsing.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's repository.
