Security Bulletin
This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.
EUVDB-ID: #VU9608
Risk: Low
CVSSv3.1: 6.4 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]
CVE-ID: CVE-2017-17433
CWE-ID:
CWE-284 - Improper Access Control
Exploit availability: No
DescriptionThe vulnerability allows a remote attacker to bypass security restrictions on the target system.
The weakness exists due to the recv_files function in receiver.c in the daemon proceeds with certain file metadata
updates before checking for a filename in the daemon_filter_list data
structure. A remote attacker can bypass intended access restrictions.
Update the affected packages
Ubuntu: 14.04 - 17.10

CWE-ID:
CWE-284 - Improper Access Control
Exploit availability: No
DescriptionThe vulnerability allows a remote attacker to bypass security restrictions on the target system.
The weakness exists due to the daemon does not check for fnamecmp filenames in the daemon_filter_list data structure (in the recv_files function in receiver.c) and also does not apply the sanitize_paths protection mechanism to pathnames found in "xname follows" strings (in the read_ndx_and_attrs function in rsync.c) and bypass intended access restrictions.
