EUVDB-ID: #VU10152

Risk: Low

CVSSv4.0: 5.9 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear]

CVE-ID: CVE-2017-3765

CWE-ID: CWE-592 - Authentication Bypass Issues

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a local attacker to bypass security restrictions on the target system.

The weakness exists in the Enterprise Network Operating System (ENOS) firmware due to the presence of a mechanism, known as HP Backdoor, for bypassing authentication on the affected switches. A local attacker can use credentials unique to a targeted switch to authenticate to the switch, bypass authentication and gain administrative-level access to the switch.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may result in system compromise.

Mitigation

Update IBM BladeCenter Virtual Fabric 10Gb Switch Module to version 7.8.14.0. Update IBM BladeCenter 1/10Gb Uplink Ethernet Switch Module to version 7.4.18.0. Update IBM BladeCenter Layer 2/7 GbE Switch Module to version 21.0.26.0. Update to version IBM BladeCenter Layer 2/3 GbE Switch Module to version 5.3.12.0.

Vulnerable software versions

IBM BladeCenter Layer 2/3 GbE Switch Module: 5.3

IBM BladeCenter Layer 2/7 GbE Switch Module: 21.0

IBM BladeCenter 1/10Gb Uplink Ethernet Switch Module: 7.4

IBM BladeCenter Virtual Fabric 10Gb Switch Module: 7.8
