Description

This security bulletin contains information about 5 secuirty vulnerabilities.

1) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-2896)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The weakness exists in the xls_mergedCells function of libxls due to out-of-bounds write. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted .xls file, trick the victim into opening it, trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code with privileges of the current user.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may result in system compromise.

2) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-2897)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The weakness exists in the read_MSAT function of libxls due to out-of-bounds write. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted .xls file, trick the victim into opening it, trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code with privileges of the current user.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may result in system compromise.

3) Stack-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-2919)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The weakness exists in the xls_getfcell function due to stack-based buffer overflow. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted .xls file, trick the victim into opening it, trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code with privileges of the current user.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may result in system compromise.

4) Integer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-12110)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The weakness exists in the xls_appendSST function due to integer overflow. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted .xls file, trick the victim into opening it, trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code with privileges of the current user.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may result in system compromise.

5) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-12111)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
