Security Advisory

1) Out-of-bounds read

Risk: Low

CVSSv3: 4.8 [CVSS:3.0/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N/E:U/RL:O/RC:C] [PCI]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-16914

CWE-ID: CWE-125 - Out-of-bounds Read

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a local user to gain access to potentially sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to the way that the Windows Graphics Device Interface Plus (GDI+) handles objects in memory. A local user can use a specially crafted application, trigger out-of-bounds read error and read contents of memory on the system.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's website.

Vulnerable software versions

Windows: 7, 8.1, 10, 10 1607, 10 1709, 10 1803, 10 1809, 10 1903, 10 1909, 10 2004, RT 8.1

2) Buffer overflow

Risk: High

CVSSv3: 7.7 [CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H/E:U/RL:O/RC:C] [PCI]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-16911

CWE-ID: CWE-119 - Improper Restriction of Operations within the Bounds of a Memory Buffer

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to the way that the Windows Graphics Device Interface (GDI) handles objects in the memory. A remote attacker can trick the victim to open a specially crafted document file or visit a malicious website, trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's website.
