Security Bulletin

This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.

1) Buffer overflow

EUVDB-ID: #VU48743

Risk: Low

CVSSv4.0: 4 [CVSS:4.0/AV:P/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-25577

CWE-ID: CWE-119 - Memory corruption

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

There are two vulnerabilities in rtsold(8) when processing RDNSS and DNSSL options. An  attacker with the ability to connect to a physical network can send specially crafted packets to the daemon, trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's website.

Vulnerable software versions

Q & A

Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?

No. The attacker should have physical access to the system in order to successfully exploit this vulnerability.

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.

2) Use-after-free

EUVDB-ID: #VU48744

Risk: Medium

CVSSv4.0: 6.6 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-7469

CWE-ID: CWE-416 - Use After Free

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to a use-after-free error when processing ICMPv6 error message. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted ICMPv6 message, trigger a use-after-free error and read contents of freed kernel memory.

Mitigation

Install updates from vendor's website.

Vulnerable software versions

FreeBSD: 11.0 - 12.2
