Security Bulletin
This security bulletin contains information about 4 vulnerabilities.
EUVDB-ID: #VU77450
Risk: Medium
CVSSv4.0: 4.9 [CVSS:4.0/AV:A/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green]
CVE-ID: CVE-2023-3138
CWE-ID:
CWE-787 - Out-of-bounds write
Exploit availability: No
Description The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error within src/InitExt.c in libX11. A remote attacker can send specially crafted data to the server, trigger an out-of-bounds write and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
Update the affected packages.
x11-libs/libX11 to version: 1.8.7
Gentoo Linux: All versions
x11-libs/libX11: before 1.8.7
CPE2.3https://security.gentoo.org/glsa/202407-21
Q & A
Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?
Yes. This vulnerability can be exploited by a remote non-authenticated attacker via the local network (LAN).
Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?
No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.
EUVDB-ID: #VU81432
Risk: Low
CVSSv4.0: 4.3 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear]
CVE-ID: CVE-2023-43785
CWE-ID:
CWE-125 - Out-of-bounds read
Exploit availability: No
DescriptionThe vulnerability allows a local user to gain access to potentially sensitive information.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition within the _XkbReadKeySyms() function. A local user can trigger an out-of-bounds read error and read contents of memory on the system.
MitigationUpdate the affected packages.
x11-libs/libX11 to version: 1.8.7
Gentoo Linux: All versions
x11-libs/libX11: before 1.8.7
CPE2.3https://security.gentoo.org/glsa/202407-21
Q & A
Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?
No. This vulnerability can be exploited locally. The attacker should have authentication credentials and successfully authenticate on the system.
Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?
No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.
EUVDB-ID: #VU81433
Risk: Low
CVSSv4.0: 4.3 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear]
CVE-ID: CVE-2023-43786
CWE-ID:
CWE-835 - Loop with Unreachable Exit Condition ('Infinite Loop')
Exploit availability: No
DescriptionThe vulnerability allows a local user to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to infinite loop within the PutSubImage() function. A local user can consume all available system resources and cause denial of service conditions.
MitigationUpdate the affected packages.
