Q & A

Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?

Yes. This vulnerability can be exploited by a remote non-authenticated attacker via the Internet.

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.

2) Input validation error

EUVDB-ID: #VU108060

Risk: Medium

CVSSv4.0: 2.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green]

CVE-ID: CVE-2023-52892

CWE-ID: CWE-20 - Improper input validation

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to bypass implemented security restrictions.

The vulnerability exists due to an error when handling some characters in Subject Alternative Name fields in TLS certificates. These fields are incorrectly allowed to have a special meaning in regular expressions (such as a + wildcard), leading to name confusion in X.509 certificate host verification.

Mitigation

Update the affected package php-phpseclib to the latest version.

Vulnerable software versions

Ubuntu: 16.04 - 22.04

php-phpseclib (Ubuntu package): before 1.0.1-3ubuntu0.1+esm1

CVE-ID: CVE-2024-27354

CWE-ID: CWE-20 - Improper input validation

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input in isPrime() and randomPrime() functions. A remote attacker can pass specially crafted input to the application and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
