EUVDB-ID: #VU32495

Risk: Medium

CVSSv3.1: 4.6 [CVSS:3.1/CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2014-3616

CWE-ID: CWE-284 - Improper Access Control

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to manipulate data.

nginx 0.5.6 through 1.7.4, when using the same shared ssl_session_cache or ssl_session_ticket_key for multiple servers, can reuse a cached SSL session for an unrelated context, which allows remote attackers with certain privileges to conduct "virtual host confusion" attacks.

Mitigation

Install update from vendor's website.

Vulnerable software versions

nginx (Alpine package): 1.6.1-r0
