CVE-ID: CVE-2019-14834

CWE-ID: CWE-400 - Resource exhaustion

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to perform service disruption.

A vulnerability was found in dnsmasq before version 2.81, where the memory leak allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via vectors involving DHCP response creation.

Mitigation

Update the affected package dnsmasq to the latest version.

Vulnerable software versions

Ubuntu: 16.04 - 20.10

dnsmasq-utils (Ubuntu package): before 2.82-1ubuntu1.2

dnsmasq-base (Ubuntu package): before 2.82-1ubuntu1.2

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.

2) Heap-based buffer overflow

EUVDB-ID: #VU49840

Risk: High

CVSSv3.1: 7.1 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2020-25681

CWE-ID: CWE-122 - Heap-based Buffer Overflow

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error in "sort_rrset()" when DNSSEC is used. A remote attacker can pass specially crafted data to the application, trigger heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

Mitigation

Update the affected package dnsmasq to the latest version.
