| Updated: 2020-08-08

Vulnerability identifier: #VU37998

Vulnerability risk: High

CVSSv4.0: 8.1 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Amber]

CVE-ID: CVE-2012-4449

CWE-ID: CWE-327

Exploitation vector: Network

Exploit availability: No

Vulnerable software:
Hadoop
Server applications / Frameworks for developing and running applications

Vendor: Apache Foundation

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code.

Apache Hadoop before 0.23.4, 1.x before 1.0.4, and 2.x before 2.0.2 generate token passwords using a 20-bit secret when Kerberos security features are enabled, which makes it easier for context-dependent attackers to crack secret keys via a brute-force attack.

Mitigation
Install update from vendor's website.

Vulnerable software versions

Hadoop: 1.0.0 - 2.0.2
